Has someone in your life ever told you "you can't do this because..." depending on who they are and their relationship to you, what they are saying might be to protect you and it might even make sense logically. Generally, when someone is telling you what is possible, it is because they have not seen anything to prove that the reality they have in their head is not true but it is our choice whether or not to believe and accept what they say to be truth. We go throughout our lives picking up limitations that other people have put on us, lies that we choose to believe that sometimes can even come from what we choose to believe about ourselves.
Over the last few months, I honestly haven't been feeling super inspired which is why I haven't been writing much. I've felt a fog over my brain that I can't seem to shake; like I'm constantly allowing distractions in to help me procrastinate tasks that I know I need to be doing. Tasks that I usually would get done in 1 day have been taking me 3-4 days and I just have felt so unmotivated and honestly just like not doing anything. Has this ever happened to you?
Well, I took some time recently to really pause and be more present and that is when I felt God speaking to me from a lot of different sources. So many messages kept coming to me in different places about how important it is to protect your heart and mind and I thought that this was such an important message that I needed to share it.
Just like I believe that God is very real, I also believe that the devil is real. In the Bible it says: "Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8
Immediately a few things stand out to me in this verse: "be clearheaded". How hard is that sometimes? Between all of our to-do lists, situations that happen in our lives, distractions coming at us left and right - especially with phones. The next thing that immediately stood out to me in this verse is that Peter calls him "your accuser" very interesting. It's interesting to me because this is explaining how the devil works. If you know how he works you can know how to fight back when he tries to attack.
This is a clear picture of how we are told the devil works: "...there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." John 8:44 we are told that the devil is the Father of Lies. We know that the devil attacks using lies and where do those lies try to take hold? In our mind. If he can just get you to believe those lies for long enough then he has you where he wants you: stuck, scared, angry, depressed, anxious, shameful, addicted. There are so many lies that are in each of our minds today; lies about how we look, lies about our future, lies about being loved or worthy of love.
It is so important to come back to truth and shake off these lies that are holding us back from the life God has for us! In a world where it is so hard to discern truth and to know what to believe I find peace in knowing the truth of God. I don't know who is reading this today but if you are, there is a reason and I want to speak these words of truth over your life that come straight from the word of God.
Truth from God:
-You are loved: "Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if
we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? ... No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow — not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below — indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:35, 37-39)
-You are a beautiful creation of God: She is worth far more than rubies. (Prov. 31:10) For we are God’s masterpiece… (Eph. 2:10)
-There is a purpose for your life: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)
-God has a beautiful plan for you: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)
-You are provided for: "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)
-God wants you to live an abundant and full life: "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us." (Ephesians 3:20) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)
-You have nothing to fear: "For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
Recently, I was talking with my mom who is a registered nutritionist and a heart math practitioner. Heart math practitioners study the electricity in your heart and how it connects to the rest of your body. What was super interesting in our conversation is that she was telling me how the heart and the mind are more connected than people realize. That you actually feel in your heart and that leads to a thought in your mind - immediately this verse came to me: "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23 another translation says "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life" Proverbs 4:23.
If everything you do flows from your heart and the mind is what helps us make decisions about what we do in our life, I believe it is so important to check with our minds. What are you choosing to believe that is a lie? Today is the day to release the lies of the devil that have been holding you back. I pray for freedom of heart and mind for you today. That you would believe what God says about you over anything people try to tell you is possible for your life.
In Jesus name I pray Amen!
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8
